Behind Closed Doors.
A family table, a piece of pie, a dead body. A story about domestic violence, looking beyond the customs and 'traditions' of an entire society.
THE MISSION
Director Statemenτ.
The closed society, like that of a remote mountain village, where everything seemingly operates smoothly, found the tradition of the 'Fanouropita' as the catalyst for the creation of the 'Tama'. The 'harsh' reality, the 'raw' truth, the stone-like 'rigid' setting, the 'suffocating' atmosphere one August afternoon, the few-spoken characters who behave mournfully, with clothing shades inspired by funeral offerings: a family drama that, for the first time, is openly discussed in an outdoor space.
The vow is the secret of this story: that which no one speaks of while it affects their present, but when one person rises from the crowd, the moment comes when everyone is awakened, thus breaking the 'intolerable' silence. The film addresses – without 'revealing' – the issue of domestic violence, especially violence against women, which forces a family to behave in a way that fits both society's expectations and its own honor.
